What’s new in our living room this week ?

I am finalizing the decoration of our living room.

This week framed intaglios and reupholstered armchairs were brought in.

In my previous living room update post, I told you about the pair of French 19th century walnut armchairs we had to reupholster. The upholstery was finished this week.

For the love of Linen – Belgian Libeco Linen Rugs

I can’t hide I do have a preference for linen !  I love to use linen in clients projects, as in this living room I nearly finished.

I might think that our renowned Belgian decorator & antiques dealer Axel Vervoordt has influenced a lot of us, designers, to bring in linen fabrics in our projects. He introduced us, in particularly, to the world of the slipcovered seats. And I have to admit, I wasn’t immune to this gorgeous new look !

For my client’s living room here, I have chosen linen fabrics for the window treatment as well as for the seat upholstery. Linen provides a full range of colors. You can be sure to find that subtle shade you are looking for. As to notice here in this living room, I was looking for a particular color shade for the bergère upholstery to have a match with the old rose marble color of the antique chimney piece. And I found this lilac shade of Belgian linen in the collection of our Belgian company LF-Trading.

I am currently looking for a linen rug to bring in here.

Today, I would love to introduce you to the beautiful 100% Belgian linen rugs by the Belgian linen company LIBECO.

This Libeco linen carpet, has a more rustic look, combining old green with chalk, old red and blue.

This Penny Lane rug could work in this room up here !

This Libeco Big Wave rug could be an alternative to bring into the room above. The design of this rug is inspired by vintage surf boards.

Linen rugs in neutral colors work beautifully in nearly every room in the house. My personal choice of rug for this living room up here : Libeco Portobello Road carpet, in flax or gray.

This fall I would love to see the Libeco Cambridge rug on the floor of our orangery. One of the Cambridge rug’s colors will certainly match the linen upholstery and Kelim cushions.

Cozy corner

No matter the size of your home, everyone should have a cozy corner, a cozy place to curl up with a book, to listen to your favorite music, to have a cup of tea, to enjoy the warmth of the fire place or whatever you love to do in this favorite room !

This week I finished decorating the cozy corner in my sister’s house.

Ready for Fall !

MILIEU’s “World of Change”

I am thrilled to announce that the brand new interior design & lifestyle magazine MILIEU has arrived !!!

Cover MILIEUCOVER MILIEU Fall 2013

This new home décor magazine, that finds its way to the newsstands this month, is founded by the renowned Houston based interior designer Pamela Pierce.

In this luxurious quarterly print magazine, Pam wants to show us beautiful international houses and gardens on thick, glossy paper. And it has to be said, that indeed, all pages of the featured houses look fabulous!

What also makes MILIEU different to other interior design magazines, is, that Pamela wanted to search for designers who haven’t been published that much.

An interesting article about Pam and her new magazine MILIEU appeared in the Home & Garden section of The New Your Times, last month.

Most of you do know that I am officially assisting Pam and her team in scouting European locations and designers. See my blogpost about my contribution to MILIEU here.

Can you imagine how proud I am with the featuring of the house of our Belgian designer Walda Pairon in the first issue of this brand new American interior design magazine?!

The photoshoot was taken by my favorite Belgian photographer Claude Smekens, introduced to Pam on her first visit to Belgium in June this year.

I am sure you all will love the featuring of Walda’s beautiful countryhouse near Antwerp.

Pam invited a lot of other designers to tell their story in this first issue of MILIEU as Tom Boland, Aaron Rambo, Ernie Sulpizio and many more.

There are a lot of interesting articles published on the editorial pages of this MILIEU issue. I really enjoyed the article about designer Marie Warren sharing her nine secrets for success!

Not to forget to mention that each issue of MILIEU will feature a favorite blog! Do you have a favorite blog, please share it with MILIEU. Email editor@milieu-mag.com

The first blog featured in this September issue of MILIEU is COTE DE TEXAS by Joni Webb.

Congratulations Joni!

Joni has also written a nice article about MILIEU. To read it, click HERE.

And finally I want to thank Pam for mentioning me and the photographer Claude Smekens here at this page!  Wonderful to see us, Belgians, between mostly American people, contributing to this magazine.Milieu Fall 2013Scanned page - MILIEU Fall 2013

I am currently searching for more European locations to be featured in future MILIEU issues.  Watch out, we recently found a gorgeous Belgian home to be featured in one of the next issues!

I do hope MILIEU will make its appearance on the Belgian newsstands as soon as possible. I am sure that the Belgian design enthusiasts will love the magazine!

CONGRATULATIONS SALLY AND JOHN !

My friends Sally & John of Boston-based Wilson Kelsey Design and who write the beautiful interior design blog Wilson Kelsey Design, made it to the cover of the September/October issue of Design New England, with one of their projects.

The magazine features a 1670 farmhouse on the north shore of Boston — one of the oldest homes ever to appear in Design New England. The story tells about restoring the house of which Sally & John designed the interior.
