Cupboard love

I have to admit that I do have a weakness for antique cupboards. This type of furniture can be placed in several rooms of the house and can be used for different purposes. They can be functional or they can be used as a decorative piece of furniture.

In a dining room they can be used as display cabinets, in a kitchen they can be used as storage. You even can use them as curiosity cabinets in your study room.

Unexpected new look for an authentic paneling

The currently Paris based Belgian designer Ramy Fischler of the firm RF Studio, was asked to renovate and to breathe new life into a duplex apartment in a listed Art Deco building in Paris.

He wanted to get a lot of daylight into the paneled rooms and brightened up the rooms by painting the top of the French 18th century paneling with the same brilliant white as the ceiling.

The paint fades out, leaving the natural-finished oak visible.

By taking tradition and craftsmanship as a starting point to create contemporary design, Ramy Fischler shows respect for authentic elements.

Although the paneling is given a modern twist, the rooms retain their authentic look but lighter and fluffier for the eyes.

Ramy Fischler founded his design firm in 2010. He is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale de Création Industrielle, ENSCI-Les Ateliers and was the exclusive partner of Patrick Jouin for nearly nine years.

To see more of Ramy Fischler’s work, please visit his website RF Studio.

I just love Ramy Fischler’s design approach.  Really brilliant!

What are your thoughts about it ?

An alternative use

A few days ago we visited a client's house where we installed a kitchen 2 years ago and to my surprise I noticed that the kitchen cabinet space that was meant to store the cutlery, was now used to place the wine bottles!

I actually think it is a splendid idea and a gorgeous alternative use.

I absolutely wanted to share the idea with you today.

In love with libraries

As I have a passion for books, in particular interior design books, I love spending hours in our library.  When I need inspiration to design a client’s library or complete interior design project, I close the door of our library, put on my favorite music and start consulting my collection of interior design books.

1One of my favorite images is this library designed by Axel Vervoordt   Image source here

Can you imagine, sitting in a comfortable chair next to the fire place, curling up with a book? Definitely a treat for the soul!

Designing a library, you have to pay attention to details.

Notice the bookcase details here. Awesome!

And I do love to bring in secret library doors, if possible.

What I love more in all these shown libraries, is the painted back of the bookcases.

7I am still thankfull to my blog colleague Michelle Morelan for the rendering she made of our library a few years ago.

If you need inspiration to furnish or to decorate your library, I discovered an interesting feature on 1STDIBS with great addresses to find library furniture and accessories.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

‘Laudonie’, a fabulous holiday retreat in France

If you plan to spend this year’s holidays in France, you absolutely should stop nearby the village of Rouffignac–Saint-Cernin de Reilhac (Dordogne) and spend a few days at the fabulous Château Laudonie!

1Image source website Laudonie – Photo credit Dirk Goethals

‘Laudonie, nestling between woods and hills, is located 4 km to the east of Rouffignac–Saint-Cernin de Reilhac. The estate comprises 53 hectares that are partly in the commune of Plazac and partly in the commune of Rouffignac–Saint-Cernin de Reilhac. A little communal no-through-road leads to the property. The buildings will impress you as soon as you arrive. They are perched on a ridge offering a stunning view over the surrounding valleys and hills.
The inner courtyard is the heart of the estate. It is bordered by the Manor House, the four towers and the barn.’

The old accountancy books reveal that Laudonie had been bequeathed to Sieur Debord, Lieutenant of the Port of Bordeaux, sometime around 1500 AD. This family took the name of the Laudonie locality for the family.

The Laudonie estate has been sold and re-sold on several occasions. In the late 1990’s, this ‘castle’ was bought by Pierre Caron who fell in love with the property. With a huge enthusiasm and dedication he started the renovation of the historical estate to share it with family and friends.

After Pierre Caron passed away in 2005, his wife Fanny Van Herzeele, continued the restoration and completed the work of her husband with the help of the Belgian architect Stephane Boens.

The Manor House can easily accommodate twelve people.

In the North Tower, there is an apartment of about 100m² (1000ft2) that is ideal for two people.

The West Tower is similar to the North Tower, in terms of accommodation. However, it does not have a private terrace.

The South Tower is the smallest of the four and serves as an extension to the Manor or Tower North. It has four beds (bunk beds) and is equipped with a bathroom but with no kitchen. It is ideal for a group of youngsters.

Laudonie offers his visitors an extended recreation area, where you will find a swimming pool, a sauna, a tennis court and a petanque pitch. In addition, Laudonie is located in close proximity to a golf course.

I would love to recommend you to visit the gorgeous website of LAUDONIE, where you will find much more to read about the history of the estate and were you will find more information together with an extended photo gallery of the property.

Ancient art or a valuable object can be the starting point, evolving into the theme of the entire design of a space or a home.

‘In this way you create a personalized interior, fully tailored to the customer's wishes. A good design is independent of trends and budgets. Whether it's a traditional, classic, country, eclectic or modern styled design.’ , explains Natascha on her website.
