Belgian Luxury B&B ‘Vaucelles - The Little Monastery’

Those who are following my blog since a few years, will have noticed that in September 2009 I wrote a blogpost about the opening of the new showroom of Belgian renowned antiques dealers Brigitte & Alain Garnier (click HERE to read this blogpost).

Years ago the Garnier family bought the old property ‘Vaucelleshof’, used to be an abbey with about 10 monks living there. The family restored the house with passion and with respect for its history.

‘Vaucelleshof’ is wonderfully situated in the green and open surroundings of the medieval village of Damme, only 10 minutes from Bruges. The property now consists out of buildings of the 17th, 18th and 19th century, all carefully restored.

Who doesn’t remember the cover of Veranda Magazine March 2011, where the dining room of the Garnier family was shown. Or the orangerie of Vaucelleshof that made it on the cover of the gorgeous book Quiet Living.

‘Vaucelleshof’ is not only the residence of the Garnier family, but also accomodates the showroom, full of antiques!

The small hotel currently counts 3 rooms. Two more rooms will be finished in 2014.

All rooms are decorated by Brigitte Garnier.

Flemish Interiors of today

The Flemish interiors of today are characterized by the use of natural (new or recuperation), materials and elements.
Oakwood for furniture and woodpaneling. Parquet, natural stone, terra cotta tiles or brick as flooring materials.
Lime paint on the walls. Linen used as seat upholstery or slipcovers and as curtains fabric.

The interiors of today give you the impression as if they were created a long time ago and never have been changed for years.

Our Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt has been a trendsetter for the look of a lot of these Flemish interiors. Did you know that this week he is named by the British design house Andrew Martin as "Designer of the year 2009" ? If you want to read more about it, you could visit the garvinweasel blog. James, the author of the blog did a post about the nomination (here).

Open doors at Garnier Antiques

Past Sunday we went to the opening of the new showroom of the antique dealers Brigitte and Alain Garnier, at Damme near Bruges.
I can tell you the new location is gorgeous!
About 10 years ago Brigitte and Alain bought the old farm house and for several years they worked very hard on it! They restored the house with passion and with respect for authenticity.
Their new home looks fantastic. They can be very proud of the result!

I know Brigitte and Alain for a long time and every time I go to visit them , I'm always surprised of all the gorgeous antique pieces and of the amazing decoration talent of Brigitte.

That's why today I really love to share some wonderful images of their house and antiques!
But please, go to visit their website www.garnier.be and you will discover a wide range of antique items. Brigitte and Alain even have a wonderful home collection to present.
So if you are interested in one of their items, don't hesitate to contact them. They are used to ship around the world!

Congratulations to you, Brigitte and Alain!
